Renting textbooks

January 13, 2010 - 5:22 pm No Comments

I was an incoming freshman at the nearest university, and when our college professors gave us textbooks that we will be using for the semester, I went to the university bookstore as soon as possible to get a pricelist on the textbooks that I needed.  After getting the pricelist, I was shocked at how expensive the textbooks were, the total of the textbooks I needed where almost a hundred dollars.

I was having second thoughts on buying new textbooks, however, the textbooks at the library were hard to  come by since most of the time they were out.  It was good thing that I happen to come across stores offering textbook rentals.  I decided to visit one of the stores  and  was surprised to see how huge the difference are in terms of price, and the condition of textbooks were still superb, with an exemption of a few folds.  It was right then and there that  I decided to rent college textbooks, they were cheaper, with prices less than half of new textbooks.  Why buy new textbooks that you will only use once and then pack away?  Wherein if you rent textbook, you  will have the book you need and you won’t worry about packing them away.

Bible study is designed to be a momentous venture that will bring you closer to the Lord and help you to understand His message. When you are able to understand each passage that you read as well as the significance that each message has on your life, you will have accomplished a major feat. God has a message for each one of us and it lies in the scripture of the Bible. However, it is up to you to effectively study the Bible and discover what it means to you.

There are a number of different methods of Bible study that you can use to find the message that God has for you, the meaning of that message and how you can apply it to your life. Try reading the chapters and the passages methodically to determine the meaning of the Word as it applies to your life. It makes it easier to understand the Bible if you build one lesson at a time and uncover its meaning and then build lesson upon lesson.

When you divide your bible study into relevant lessons, you are able to focus on one message at a time to get a better understanding of the meaning. You are able to put yourself in the situation and imagine what it would be like to experience the words that you study.

Try putting the verses in your own words to understand the message as it applies to you. An effective bible study method is paraphrasing the passages and restating them in words of your own. By using familiar, simpler wording, you will be able to uncover the messages that are contained in each passage.

Another bible study trick is to make a note of your thought, theories and reflections on each passage in a bible study journal. It is a great way to determine the messages in each verse. Write down the insights that come to mind and list the ways that you can implement what you learn into your life.

If you find a verse that has special meaning to your, or is simply your favorite, write it down on a small piece of paper or an index card so you can carry it around with you wherever you go. Take it out on occasion and read it as a reminder that you are trying to apply what you have learned to your life and grow as a Christian. This is one of the best ways to remember the messages that speak to you.

The Internet is a fantastic resource for bible study. You will find a number of websites offering support and information that can help you with your lessons. In addition, Firefox has a number of extensions that are beneficial, no matter which method of bible study you choose to pursue, including:

Study More Effectively

Let’s face it – taking and making notes is part of every student’s life. So many students take down notes with their eyes closed, that why, often times their notes are not correctly taken. Note-taking involves active deciding what to note, how it should be noted and later, how the notes are to be used.

Good notes help us study more effectively by cutting down the amount of information we need to handle. They also help us think actively about what we are reading or listening to but they need to be organized appropriately. There is no single, best method for note-taking. It all depends on what suits us best, the purpose of the notes, and the topic we are taking notes on. The point is that notes need to show the connection between ideas, that is, the way the information is organized. This should be reflected in the way our notes are laid out. Remember that there is no one correct way to take notes.
